we will soon get the first next gen The Witcher video game

CD Projekt Red has a very ambitious plan for the future of the The Witcher series. Following the confirmation of the new expansion Songs of the Past for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the Polish studio has also provided clarification on its long-term plan for a new Witcher trilogy.

Michał Nowakowski, one of the leading figures at CD Projekt Red, spoke during a financial call about the possibility of additional expansions for the upcoming Witcher games. According to him, the studio's current goal is to release three new installments over a period of six years, which means that a new game in the series, if the plan is realized, would be released approximately every two years.

Due to this development pace, CD Projekt Red is currently not planning large expansions for the games in the new trilogy. Nowakowski explained that parallel work on sequels and major expansions would be difficult to execute with the existing schedule. However, he did not completely rule out the possibility of the studio returning to expansions later, but they are not part of the plan at the moment.

The first installment of the new trilogy is referred to as The Witcher 4, and it is a large RPG project that is expected to open a new chapter in the series. CD Projekt Red has previously announced that it wants to move away from the old technological foundation and is developing the new Witcher saga in Unreal Engine 5.

It is currently unknown when The Witcher 4 will be released or for which platforms it will be available. Given the previous scope of the series and the studio's ambitions, the plan for three games in six years seems very demanding, but it shows that CD Projekt Red sees The Witcher as its key long-term project once again.
