Nintendo has announced Pictonico!, a new mobile app for iOS and Android that transforms users' photos into short and quirky mini-games. The release is scheduled for May 28, 2026, and the game will be available as a free-to-start edition.
The concept is simple but very much in Nintendo style. Players can use photos from their gallery or take new photos with friends, after which Pictonico! incorporates them into a series of humorous mini-games. Examples include washing away awkward high school memories, pulling hair out of an angry mom's nose, a boss who needs help because he's hungry, or a best friend turned into a final boss.
Several mini-games will be available to try for free, while a purchase of additional "volumes" will be required for full content. A total of up to 80 mini-games will be available, ranging from simpler challenges to more demanding tasks.
Nintendo states that a constant internet connection will not be necessary, although temporary network access will be required during the initial launch and when purchasing additional content. It is also emphasized that users' photos are not sent to Nintendo.
