Psyonix unveiled a new era of Rocket League during the Rocket League Championship Series 2026: Paris Major, and the announcement also served as the first public reveal of Unreal Engine 6.
A short teaser showcased the popular free-to-play car soccer game in a new technical edition, confirming that the displayed material runs on Unreal Engine 6. This marks the first official showing of the successor to Unreal Engine 5 by Epic Games, which was introduced to the public in 2020 during the launch period of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S console generation.
So far, no specific technical details about Unreal Engine 6 have been released, nor is it known when the new version of the engine will become available to development studios. It has also not been confirmed whether the displayed material will relate to a major update of the existing game, a separate new version of Rocket League, or a longer-term technical transition of the series to new technology.
Rocket League is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux. Given that the game has been one of the most recognized titles in Epic Games' portfolio for years, the choice of Rocket League for the first presentation of Unreal Engine 6 is not a big surprise.
More information about Unreal Engine 6 and the future of Rocket League is expected to follow after this brief announcement showcase.
