horror game inspired by the classics of the genre

yan魇: Parasomnia is a new game developed by Cerebral Games and published by Nimbus Games.

In this game, you take on the roles of siblings Wan Zhi Min and Wan Zhi Hana, who are trapped in a ritual in their old home during the Hungry Ghost Festival. The Hungry Ghost Festival is a time when the barrier between the spiritual and human worlds becomes thinnest.

Similar to Nimbus Games' debut title, Malice, Parasomnia can be played cooperatively with another player, with each controller controlling one of the Wans. Unlike Malice, this option is optional.

Also, unlike Malice, Parasomnia is a survival horror game that, like many others, is inspired by Resident Evil (especially the original title from 1996) and Fatal Frame. Therefore, Parasomnia uses a fixed camera perspective and a bunch of puzzles that need to be solved inspired by RE, while the story of the brother and sister facing ghosts is definitely a result of the influence of Fatal Frame.

If you are a fan of survival horror games from the past and consider the fixed camera perspective a design choice rather than an outdated mechanic, Parasomnia is worth checking out. The game has a demo version available.

Parasomnia is expected to be released sometime in August on PC (Steam), which is around the same time as the actual Hungry Ghost Festival!
