Platige Image is a Polish studio that has been engaged in animation and visual effects for 30 years, describing itself as a team of 300 powerful magicians. They revealed to our editorial team how the studio's humble beginnings looked, what finding potential partners is like, and what other areas besides gaming they are involved in.
When was your company founded and what are some of the main goals and ideas in your work?
Platige Image was founded in 1997 in a very Platige way, unconventional and bold. The founders (Piotr Sikora & Jaroslaw Sawko) sold 300 self-designed fluorescent lamps to raise the capital needed to open an animation studio. At the time, CGI in Poland was still almost nonexistent, but they believed digital tools could transform the industry.
One of the company’s first major milestones was creating VFX for the feature film Quo Vadis in 2001, followed by an Oscar nomination for The Cathedral in 2003. These achievements put Platige Image on the international map and helped kickstart our growth.
From the beginning, our goal has been to combine art (animation) and technology. We create work that is visually ambitious, and often crosses the boundaries between animation and new media.
How do you find partners to work with?
So, most of our partners and clients come to us after seeing our previous projects and wanting to achieve a similar visual quality, style, or storytelling. Over the years, Platige Image has become widely recognized for high end realistic 3D animation, as well as for combining 3D techniques with stylized, 2D-inspired visuals in projects such as Paths of Hate or Fish Night from the Love, Death & Robots series.
At the same time, we actively look for new creative collaborations ourselves. Whenever we develop ideas that could open interesting opportunities for different industries, we reach out to potential partners directly.
What companies do you want to highlight?
Honestly, every company we have worked with over almost 30 years would be worth mentioning. Each collaboration has brought something different and helped shape our experience. When it comes to gaming studios, publishers, and developers, working on their titles is always creatively challenging in the best possible way. These projects push us to raise the visual bar and keep expanding what is possible in CGI animation.
Do you have any dream collaborations?
There are so many that it is hard to choose just one. For us, a dream collaboration is one that has a strong creative idea and space to explore something visually ambitious, and obviously, outside the box thinking.
What are some of the projects that you are working on for the future?
We have some fantastic projects in our pipeline, but unfortunately, we cannot share more details just yet :) The best way to stay up to date is to follow Platige Image on social media, where we share news, project releases, and BTS updates. That way, you will not miss anything :)
What other areas aside from videogames do you work in?
That is always a hard question to answer simply, because our work covers many different formats. Platige Image is a production and animation studio creating stories through images, in almost every form imaginable :)
So, beyond video games, we work in film, TV series, advertising, VFX, immersive experiences, broadcasting, and even event production.
