The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past will be premiered at Gamescom Opening Night Live.

There are games that simply refuse to retire, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the best proof of that. Almost twelve years after its release, the legendary RPG will once again be in the spotlight thanks to the new expansion Songs of the Past, which will have its grand premiere during the gamescom Opening Night Live event.

CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed that the new DLC will be presented during Geoff Keighley's opening presentation, which traditionally kicks off the largest European gaming fair. This is the first official showcase of the expansion that will once again put us in the role of Geralt of Rivia. Songs of the Past is being developed in collaboration with Fool's Theory, and according to the information available so far, the release is planned for 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Although CD Projekt RED has not yet revealed exactly what we can expect from the presentation, it is almost certain that we will receive the first game trailer, the first official screenshots, and potentially new details related to the story and gameplay mechanics. It remains to be seen whether the expansion will also bring new visual enhancements or additional gameplay systems.

Visitors to gamescom will be able to see the DLC live at the CD Projekt RED booth through special presentations aimed at the media and players. It is important to note that this will not be a playable demo, but rather a so-called hands-off presentation during which the development team will demonstrate the content of the expansion.

The presentations will be available:

• Business part of the fair (Hall 4.2, booth B065) from August 26 to 28,

• Entertainment part of the fair (Hall 8.1, booths B030 and A031) from August 26 to 30.

It is hard to find another example in the modern gaming industry where a game nearly twelve years old manages to generate such excitement over a new expansion. Most major RPG titles during this period have received several sequels or have long ceased to receive new content. The Witcher 3 is clearly the exception that proves the rule.

Perhaps that is why Geralt's return is so special. For millions of players, his last adventure in the Blood and Wine expansion represented a perfect farewell to one of the best RPGs of all time. The idea that we would embark on a completely new adventure with the White Wolf nearly a decade later sounded almost unimaginable. And that is exactly what is happening.

Regardless of whether Songs of the Past will be a major expansion like Blood and Wine or something of a more modest scope, the fact that CD Projekt RED is investing in The Witcher 3 again speaks volumes about the status this game enjoys among players.

The first answer to the question of what we can actually expect will come at the end of August during the gamescom Opening Night Live event. One thing is certain – we are not ready to send Geralt of Rivia into retirement just yet.
