The game leads to an English village in 1999, where the search for lost items slowly uncovers a darker family mystery.

The Detectorist Guild is a new “low-pressure” detective RPG set in the quiet English village of Shiverly in Yorkshire, at the very turn of the new millennium. The game is set to release in early 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, focusing on exploration, item collection, conversations with locals, and the gentle uncovering of secrets hidden beneath the idyllic surface of the village.

Players take on the role of James, who freely explores the village, surrounding fields, paths, and forgotten corners of nature with a metal detector. Locals often lose important personal items, and it is up to James to find them, return them to their owners, and thus gain their trust. However, what begins as a peaceful quest for lost things gradually evolves into a larger mystery connected to the village's past, its inhabitants, and James's family.

The metal detector is not just a simple tool for collecting items, but an important part of the game. The Detectorist Guild features a simulated detection system with controls for frequency, ground balance, and sensitivity, so players will need to adjust their equipment depending on the terrain and the depth at which items are located. Found historical artifacts can be donated to the local museum to uncover their origins, while 20th-century antiques can be sold at the village Emporium.

The money earned is used to upgrade equipment, allowing for deeper ground searches and the discovery of more valuable items. Along with exploring the environment, players will gather clues from the locals and use the local police station's database to connect pieces of the broader story. This way, The Detectorist Guild combines a relaxed RPG rhythm with detective elements and a sense that every found item has its own little history.

Visually, the game employs a retro-modern 2.5D style that combines pixels and voxels, aiming to capture the atmosphere of the British countryside in the late nineties. The Detectorist Guild does not aim for pressure, combat, or haste, but rather for curiosity, quiet exploration, and the satisfaction of finding something that has long been buried. For players who enjoy calmer adventures, village mysteries, and games where progress is built through small everyday tasks, this could be one of the more interesting titles to watch in 2027.
