New rumors suggest that Sony is exploring the possibility of reviving older PlayStation franchises.
Sony could potentially revisit some of its older and long-inactive PlayStation franchises in the future. Among the potential candidates for a comeback are Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, and MotorStorm.
The information has not been officially confirmed yet, but well-known insider NateTheHate stated that there is truth to the claims that Sony is investigating and considering reviving some older, unused IPs. He clarified that this does not refer to relatively newer series like Uncharted or Bloodborne, but rather to older brands that have not received new installments for years.
Additional attention was drawn to the claim by VGC journalist Jordan Middler, who specifically highlighted Ape Escape as one of the candidates. That series last received a major installment back in 2005, while Sly Cooper was last active in 2013, and MotorStorm has been waiting even longer for a return to modern PlayStation consoles.
If these rumors prove to be true, Sony could fill the gaps between major AAA projects through remake releases, remasters, or smaller new installments, while simultaneously tapping into the nostalgia of long-time PlayStation fans.
