Famitsu has published a major interview with Hideaki Nishino, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, in which he spoke about the results of PlayStation's business and the future direction of the company. Nishino highlighted that PlayStation 5 sold 16 million units in the past fiscal year, while PlayStation Plus continues to achieve good results through multiple subscription tiers. He particularly emphasized the importance of the Japanese market, where Sony Interactive Entertainment made a strategic investment through the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition aimed at Japan to further expand its user base.
One of the more important topics was live service games. Nishino stated that Sony Interactive Entertainment wants to continue to take on challenges in this area, both through its own games and through titles from other publishers. According to him, live service games require constant content additions and therefore naturally fit into the broader publishing on PlayStation 5 and PC. On the other hand, single-player first-party games should continue to emphasize the value of the PlayStation experience. Nishino also conveyed that the company is not giving up on consoles as PlayStation still sees them as devices that provide players with a simple and direct gaming experience.
